BittersMore Tonic is a wonderful synergy of Western and Chinese bitter herbs to improve your digestion and many other associated systems.
Bitters activate glandular activity and secretions. This bitter taken before a meal is a strong aperitif. Bitters are tonic to the stomach and gastro-intestinal system, they aid appetite and digestion, and greatly help or prevent indigestion due to poor digestive energy. Bitters stimulate bile flow from the liver and pancreatic secretion (enzymal flow). They can also act on the kidneys to increase urine flow. They improve the liver and stomach chi. This increased action improves healthy detoxification to tonify the skin, regulate blood sugar, reduce food allergies, remove inflammation, increase nutrient uptake and strengthen the immune system (80% of the immune system is situated in the digestive tract).
Western bitters in this tonic include the Artemisia species wormwood and mugwort, dandelion root, gentian, centaury, hops, golden seal, Oregon grape, barberry bark, greater celendine.
Chinese bitters included are sophora, bupleurum chai hu, Chinese gentian, golden thread huang lian, cork tree bark huang bai.
Many of these herbs have a high berberine content which is a bright yellow (golden), water-soluble alkaloid with strong anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, antibacterial, antiamoebic and antifingal properties, along with vasodilating properties, and act as excellent multi-functional bitter tonics that also help to heal any ulcerations on the intestinal walls. Hydrastine is a constituent that is unique to golden seal that is best extracted as a tincture (with alcohol rather than water). It is astringent and antiseptic.
